Stick A Fork In Me

I popped another stitch in my bellybutton. I have a gaping, leaking, smelly wound there. Called the surgeon's office, sent them a picture of it, they called back and moved my appt up to this Thursday. Now I just need yo figure out how to get there. I don't know if I can drive myself that far.

It hurts, though, when I bend or stand like I'm being stabbed in the gut.

Added to the frequent diarrhea I've been enduring all day. Good times. Not.

  1. I'm sorry. I've Been There and Done All That in my first month out. All of it. I didn't like it at all, though I was well-prepared mentally. The smelly navel is no doubt a minimal infection, which I also had at one month out. The assistant surgeon did something to me in the office (probably reamed out the ook and gave me another stitch, as I recall), and it felt much better after that.

Tick-tock. Six weeks. Because I *had* to be up and running with a full-time job at that point, that period sticks in mind as my primary recovery period. And that is, indeed, how long it took to feel moderately normal, though the first year requires assorted mental adjustments.

It does get better. Just remember that the DS comes with a Period of Suck for EVERYONE, regardless of how smoothly the original surgery goes, and that's the period you're in.

    It gets better relatively quickly.

  2. It's awful. I knew it would be bad, just not this bad. If I read one more message board or FB post from someone who went back to work after 5 days and "felt great" I'm going to punch them in the nose.

I may not have a job to go back to, but we are moving on June 11. Don't ask me whose packing, 'cause it won't be me. I'll hire someone. I'm not doing it.
